Notes on
Bojidarovitch
Bojidarovitch
has its roots in the Balkan, with “Bojidar” translated
as “devine gift" and “ovitch” “as “Son
of”.
So, son of a respected or privileged person who is
favoured by the Gods or similar.
This has roots going back to at
least the 7th Century, with an attempt to assassinate the entire
Bojidarovitch family noted in the 11th Century, with one Prince;
Bozidar Vlastmiri, surviving to carry on the family line.
In our family the name was still in use by our Great Grandfather who
died in 1930 and was known as Bojidarovitch de Vesselitsky, with de
Vesselitsky being a Russian version of similar meaning.
The use of Bojidarovitch died out when the family name was changed to de
Vesselitsky by Sergei ( his son) in 1918, though his father Gabrielcontinued to use Bojidarovitch de Vesselitsky.
